Characteristics and application scenarios of commonly used reducers

Characteristics and application scenarios of commonly used reducers
The power transmission device adapts to various application scenarios by adjusting the speed and torque, and its structural diversity ensures wide applicability:

1、 Introduction

① For precise dynamic management, precision planetary reducers (general equipment) or flexible harmonic reducers (lightweight automated machinery) are usually selected.

② RV reducers (such as industrial robot joints) are preferred in environments that require heavy loads and high rigidity.

③ For general applications that pursue cost-effectiveness, gear reducers (efficient operation) or worm gear reducers (when self-locking function is required) can be considered.

Harmonic Drive

The flexible harmonic reducer consists of a fixed internal toothed rigid wheel, a deformable flexible wheel, and a wave generator that drives the deformation of the flexible wheel. Its working principle is that when the wave generator rotates, the flexible wheel undergoes elastic deformation under the action of the wave generator, forming a misaligned meshing with the rigid wheel, thereby transmitting power. During the deformation process, the flexible wheel tightly meshes with the rigid wheel at the long axis and separates at the short axis, achieving a deceleration effect through continuous deformation. The reduction ratio depends on the ratio of the number of rotations between the wave generator and the flexible wheel, usually ranging from 70 to 320 (single-stage).

characteristic:

① Compact structure and lightweight weight: The compact design makes it very suitable for situations with limited space.

② High precision: Low transmission error, can be controlled within 1 arc minute, meeting the requirements of precision motion control.

③ Limited carrying capacity: suitable for light load applications (such as robot arms and wrists).

④ Relatively short service life: Due to the periodic deformation of the flexible wheel, its service life is usually lower than that of RV reducers, but domestic manufacturers have significantly improved its durability.

Application areas:

① Humanoid robots, such as Tesla Optimus, require lightweight design for their rotating joints.

② Industrial robots: lightweight parts such as the forearm, wrist, and hand.

③ Medical and semiconductor equipment require high-precision precision instruments.
